Apartment renovation

Most IG Constructions projects are apartment renovations: from a 30 m² apartment in Thiseio to a 160 m² apartment in Piraeus. We take on full or partial renovations, from the site visit and design to handover, with a civil engineer in charge throughout the project.

What is different about renovating an apartment

An apartment is part of a building, and that shapes how the project is organised:

• Common areas: the entrance, stairwell and lift are protected while materials and debris are moved.
• Neighbours and working hours: noisy works are scheduled within the permitted hours, and the building manager is kept informed.
• Shared installations: the vertical water and drainage stacks and the central heating are shared. Work is carried out without affecting the other apartments.
• Debris skip: where needed, the required permit is obtained from the municipality.
• The building's appearance: changing windows or railings may need to follow the building's regulations.

Full or partial renovation

• Partial renovation: covers specific rooms, usually the bathroom and kitchen, or works such as flooring and painting.
• Full renovation: can include a new layout, electrical and plumbing work, windows, flooring, insulation and finishing works.

In older apartments it often makes sense to plan everything together, so the installations do not have to be opened up again later.

How we work

1. Site visit: the engineer records the condition of the apartment and your needs.
2. Design: layout, choice of materials and, where needed, 3D visualisation.
3. Detailed quote: cost per work and material, schedule and a private agreement.
4. Delivery: specialised crews, coordinated by one engineer in charge.
5. Handover: a final walkthrough with you.

For common sizes there are ready packages with a detailed description of the works: 50 m², 70 m² and 85 m². Frequently asked questions about apartment renovation

Can I stay in the apartment during the renovation?

With a partial renovation, often yes. With a full renovation involving removals and new installations, usually not, for reasons of safety and practicality.

Do I need a permit to renovate an apartment?

It depends on the works. Most interior works only require a notification, while some, such as changes to the load-bearing structure or the façades, need approval. Our engineer checks this during the site visit. More in our article Is a planning permit required?
